Although, there is no mention of Mary's Assumption in scared scripture, on this day Catholics around the world celebrate Mary's heavenly birthday.
The Assumption of Mary is one of the four Marian Dogmas of the Catholic Church. In 1950, Pope Pius XII confirmed the dogma (belief) as a matter of faith for all Catholics.
Defining the Dogma of the Assumption he wrote, “By the authority of Our Lord Jesus Christ, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and by our own authority, we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory,”
This Dogma in the Assumption was based on
Lack of relics of Mary
Her empty tomb
Symbols of her Assumption in Scripture
Stories from early apostolic traditions
Quotes from early Christian letter & sermons
Ancient celebrations of the feast day
"Mary ascends, and the Word of God reveals to us what characterises us as she does so: service to her neighbour and praise to God,” the Pope said, Mary’s life mirrors that of her Son: Jesus and Mary… travel the same road, two lives that ascend upwards glorifying the God and serving the brethren."
“Mary our Mother, assumed into heaven” to “help us to climb higher each day through prayer and service.”
Pope Francis asks us to ask ourselves,
“Do I make service the ‘springboard’ of my life? … Do I, like Mary, exult in God? … And, after praising Him, do I spread His joy among the people I meet?”,
Pope Francis, Vatican News
"If, like Mary, we remember the great things that the Lord does, if at least once a day we 'magnify', we glorify Him, then we take a great step forward ... our hearts will expand, joy will increase,"
Pope Francis
Taken up into Heaven
Mary shows us the way to God,
the way to Heaven
The way to Life.
St. Pope John Paul II
